Pure domestic high-performance respirator mask for infection control "LUFKA"
A case study on the development of a respirator mask that pursues "ease of breathing." Due to the spread of COVID-19, there was a shortage of essential N95 masks in medical settings, with no clear outlook for stable supply. We undertook the development of over 20 prototypes of the respirator mask in just a month and a half. To comply with the high standards of "N95," the product features a high-performance filter positioned optimally on the face, designed for easier and more secure attachment and detachment. Additionally, to minimize discomfort during use, it was designed to be lightweight and compact. Furthermore, to accommodate the varying sizes of individual faces, rubber components were used in the areas that touch the face, ensuring no air leakage and proposing a design that minimizes pain and discomfort even during prolonged use. To facilitate a smooth transition to mold production, we collaborated with molding manufacturers from the design stage to propose designs aimed at mass production, striving to shorten the time to commercialization. Although the components required a combination of different materials and had a complex shape, we produced the rubber parts using light curing and vacuum casting technology, completing a single prototype in about two days.
